Making Words is a weekly Wednesday activity in our classroom. Students manipulate paper letters to learn about letter sounds and spelling. Students learn how to take words apart and blend them back together again. Also, they have fun trying to guess the secret mystery word that can be made with all of the letters. This week is an exception; I couldn't think of a word that was spelled with all of these letters!
These lessons are based off of P. Cunningham's and D. Hall's work from their Making Words series.
The premise is the same with every lesson. I give them specific instructions about how many letters to use, letters to add, letters to take away, and so on. We practice listening and making letter sounds.
See if you can guess what my directions were through the series of photo's below! I never tell them which letters to use!
