Subtraction Strategies
Students have been developing strategies for solving addition and subtraction problems. We have been sharing these strategies with one another, showing examples of how to use them, and finding ways to show our thinking on paper.
If your student every gets stuck when solving a subtraction story problem, remind them of these strategies they developed in class!

Our class neighborhood: Skyworld 114, Philadelphia
Last week students created the community members who lived in our neighborhood. Our working definition of community is a group of people who work together. Nurses, teachers, parents, police officers, librarians, musicians and other have created this community.
This past week our community members worked together to get rid of all the litter that suddenly appears on our neighborhood streets! Our community members made trash cans, recycling bins, and garbage trucks to help clean up. (There is a recycling truck in the works).
As a side note, I did mention to students that while kids can help clean up litter they should always been with their families and protecting themselves with the proper tools.
